Wheeling Nailers News Release

KALAMAZOO, MI- Over the course of the past two weeks, the Wheeling Nailers have seen some exciting highs, as well as some frustrating lows. The past week resulted in the latter, finishing with Saturday night's result. Adam Krause netted his first pro goal 76 seconds into the contest for the Nailers, before Kalamazoo bounced back with five of the final six tallies for a 5-2 victory at Wings Event Center.

The Nailers accomplished the first item on their checklist, starting the scoring at the 1:16 mark of the first period. David Makowski's right point shot was stopped by Joel Martin, but the rebound sat loose in the crease. Riley Brace and Adam Krause both took whacks at the biscuit, with Krause's finding its way in for his first professional goal. Six minutes into the stanza, the Wings battled back to tie the score. With a pile-up in the crease, Matt Caria fished out a loose puck, flipping in the equalizer from the left side of the slot. Kalamazoo then went ahead with 8:42 remaining in the period, when Jeremie Blain's right point wrister got through a maze and into the back of the net for a 2-1 score after twenty minutes.

The Wings added to their advantage at the 8:41 mark of the second period, while playing on the man advantage. The puck got moved around to Ludwig Blomstrand in the right circle, where he roofed a wrist shot into the top-left corner of the goal. Wheeling pulled to within one with 8:09 remaining, as Derek Army pounced on a loose puck in the slot, shuffling a shot through Joel Martin's legs. Mike Ratchuk and Mike Slowikowski assisted on the tally, with Slowikowski gathering his first point in the ECHL.

Unfortunately, the Nailers were unable to climb any closer in the third period, as Kalamazoo added a pair of insurance markers. With 9:34 remaining in regulation, Gergo Nagy danced his way from the right side into the slot, where he lifted a wrist shot just underneath the crossbar for a key two-goal edge. Blomstrand completed his two-goal night with an empty netter during the final two minutes, illustrating the finishing touches on a 5-2 win for the Wings.

Joel Martin was the winning goaltender for Kalamazoo, after making 23 saves on 25 shots. Franky Palazzese suffered the defeat, despite turning away 35 of the 39 shots he faced.

The Nailers will visit the Reading Royals on Wednesday night at 7:30, before returning home to battle the Elmira Jackals on Friday night at 7:35.

The Nailers have one home games remaining in the 2014-15 regular season, with a 7:35 battle against the Elmira Jackals on April 10th. That night will be a Flat Screen Friday, Frosty Friday, and Player Poster Giveaway, in addition to Fan Appreciation Night.
