Eagles Fall in Shootout to Steelheads, 3-2
April 4, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
BOISE, Idaho. -The Colorado Eagles (41-22-3-3) came back from two goals down again, eventually falling to the Idaho Steelheads (46-17-2-4) in a shootout, 3-2, Saturday night at CenturyLink Arena.
The Steelheads would light the lamp first for the second night in a row, as forward Wade McLeod came streaking down the left wing on the power play, finding linemate Jesse Root in the slot, who finished past Eagles netminder Jacob DeSerres, giving Idaho the 1-0 lead. Idaho forward Jefferson Dahl would continue the offensive attack, spinning around and hammering home a rebound past Deserres, giving Idaho the 2-0 advantage with 6:30 into the second. Once again, Colorado wouldn't go quietly into the night. Forward Chris Knowlton waited patiently from the point on the power play before sniping the Eagles back within one, 2-1, with 7:52 remaining in the second frame.
With just under 12 minutes remaining in the game, Eagles forward Vitalijs Pavlovs fired the puck into an effectively empty net, tying up the game up at 2 after a misplayed puck by Idaho netminder Olivier Roy.
Sixty minutes wasn't enough once again for the Eagles, as they took Idaho to overtime, and eventually to a shootout. In the fifth round, Idaho forward Taylor Peters beat DeSerres, giving Idaho the 3-2 victory. DeSerres stood on his head the majority of the night, stopping 28 of 30 Idaho shots. In the final road trip of the season, the Eagles took three of a possible four points from the conference-leading Steelheads.
