Andrew Courtney Sets New Franchise Record for Missouri
April 4, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kansas City Mavericks News Release
TULSA, OK - The Missouri Mavericks split their weekend series with the Tulsa Oilers Saturday night, taking a 5-3 win at the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK. Missouri Mavericks leading goal-scorer, Andrew Courtney, scored twice for the Mavs to set a new franchise record for single-season goals with his thirty-fifth tally of the season.
Courtney opened the scoreboard for Missouri only 3:06 into the first period off a feed from Brett Stovin and Sebastien Thinel. The goal tied Courtney with his own franchise record of thirty-four goals, which he set during the Mavs 2013-14 campaign.
The Oilers answered back with their own mark on the scoreboard at 12:34 when Jeff Jubinville tied up the game 1-1 with an assist from Drew Fisher and Adam Pleskach. Tulsa then took the lead at 15:15 while short-handed with a goal from Jon Booras (assisted by Stephen Perfetto and Kevin Noble).
Trailing 2-1 to start the second period, the Mavs made their move midway through the frame with Courtney's second tally of the night and record setting thirty-fifth goal with the help of defenseman Colten Hayes and left winger Sebastien Thinel. Tyler Currier gave Missouri the 3-2 lead with a short-handed goal at 14:40. Thinel took the lone assist on Currier's eighth lamp-lighter of the season.
The Mavericks carried their lead into the final frame when Ludwig Karlsson expanded on it for a 4-2 advantage with the aid of Lindsay Sparks and Matt Stephenson.
Missouri looked to be skating away with the 4-2 game when Jubinville snuck in another point for the Oilers with only forty-two seconds left on the clock, while short-handed. Tulsa pulled net minder Brandon Anderson in favor of a fifth skater to negate the Missouri power-play, but Thinel drove home an empty-net goal off the pass of Patch Alber to give the Mavs a 5-3 victory.
Mavericks goaltender Brandon Jaeger made his professional debut tonight in a Missouri sweater, playing a full sixty minutes with twenty-four saves, and taking home his first win between the pipes for the Mavs.
The Mavericks play their next game on Tuesday, Apr. 7 at Independence Events Center when they play host to the visiting Brampton Beast in their final home game of the 2014-15 season.
