Alaska Aces News Release
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -Goaltender Igor Bobkov made 37 saves and Alex Krushelnyski earned a goal and an assist, enough to help the Utah Grizzlies hold off the Alaska Aces, 4-1 before 5,555 fans at Maverik Center on Friday.
Landon Oslanski ended an Aces goal scoring drought of over 120 minutes with a late third period goal with an extra attacker, highlight a third period where the Aces put up 22 shots on goal. Utah scored their first three goals in a span of 6:50 during the second period and seized possession of fourth place in the Pacific Division (last remaining playoff spot) with four games to play.
The Aces nearly found the game opening strike just several seconds after the opening face-off when Felix Poulin sprung Chris Francis for a breakaway, but misfired to Bobkov's blocker side.
After the first period ended scoreless, Utah began their rally on Danick Paquette's empty netter from the right circle at 3:14 for a 1-0 lead, caused after a collision between Evan Renwick and Troy Redmann at the Aces net. Brendan Walker then finished Alex Krushelnyski's deflection for a power play goal and 2-0 lead at 8:24.
Krushelnyski then snuck behind the Aces defense and converted a breakaway goal at 10:04 for a 3-0 lead.
The Aces, maneuvering out of penalty trouble in the period, recovered to generate several high quality looks at the net, but an apparent rebound goal by Ryan Walters was overturned and Bobkov followed with a quick right pad save on Brendan Connolly's one-timer.
Redmann was pulled with 3:30 left in regulation for a sixth attacker and the Aces controlled the play, leading to Bryan Cameron's face-off win and Oslanski's one-timer from the right point that sailed through for a 3-1 deficit with 1:52 left.
Ryan Hayes sealed the game with an empty netter, after another Aces chance at the net, with 52.3 left in the game.
Redmann made 21 saves and took the loss.
