Aces Agree to Terms with Rookie Free Agent Defenseman Justin Hamonic

Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces, three time Kelly Cup champions, have agreed to terms with rookie free agent defenseman Justin Hamonic, Aces head coach Rob Murray announced today.
Hamonic will wear #4 and is available to suit up for the Aces tonight, in their ten-game road trip finale against the Utah Grizzlies at 5:00 p.m. (KFQD/ECHL.TV). The Aces trail Utah by one point for fourth place in the Pacific Division with four games remaining, and the top four teams will qualify for the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
"Justin is a highly recommended defenseman who has the potential to make a great and immediate impact on our team and in professional hockey," said Murray. "He developed into a leader during his major junior career and his makeup draws comparisons to (former Aces defenseman) Chad Anderson. We're confident his physical approach will be a terrific fit in many situations."
Hamonic, 21, served as captain for the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League for each of the last two seasons and skated in 255 career games with the club, collecting 21 points (6g-15a) and 54 penalty minutes. He was named Tri-City's Most Valuable player and took the club's Best Defenseman award this season while earning a career-high 19 points (1g-18a) and 95 penalty minutes in 72 games.
The 6-foot-5, 210 pound blueliner never missed a regular season game over the last three years and was a part of the Americans' squad that advanced to the WHL finals in 2011-12, his rookie campaign.
Hamonic is one of five defensemen on the Aces roster registering at 6-foot-2 or taller.
The Aces are the official ECHL affiliate of the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild of the NHL. Season ticket and sponsorship packages are currently available through the Aces office at 15th & Gambell.
