Kalamazoo Wings News Release
KALAMAZOO - Rebounding from a loss the night before, the Kalamazoo Wings got back into the win column and in the process moved their magic number for a postseason berth to four points with a 5-2 victory Saturday night against the Wheeling Nailers on Autism Awareness Night.
Striking quickly, Adam Krause (1st) gave the Nailers the lead 1:16 into the period by pushing in a Riley Brace rebound.
Rebounding nearly five minutes later, Matt Caria (25th) increased his point streak to five games scoring on a wrister from the slot.
Utilizing an Eric Kattelus screen, Jeremie Blain gave the K-Wings the lead with a slap shot from the blue line midway in the period.
Extending their lead midway through the second stanza, Ludwig Blomstrand (32nd) found the back of the net with a wrister from the left circle. The goal was the third in three games for Blomstrand.
Cutting the K-Wings lead to one, Derek Army (27th) slid a shot from the high-slot between the pads of Joel Martin. Martin, who earned his 29th victory of the season, finished the night with 23 saves.
Bringing the lead back to two, Gergo Nagy (16th) received a drop pass from Michael Neal at the blue line, walked to the high slot and lifted a wrister over the blocker of Wheeling goaltender Franky Palazzese.
Putting the game away, Blomstrand (33rd) buried an empty netter from the neutral zone. The goal gives Blomstrand 22 goals in his 26 games.
Kalamazoo will hit the road this Wednesday, April 8th for a 7:05 p.m. encounter against the Indy Fuel.
The K-Wings will return home this Friday, April 10th with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Fort Wayne Komets during the Unofficial Michigan Rock, Paper, and Scissors State Championships. This Friday will also be a 3, 2, 1 Countdown to Fun!, featuring $3 beer, $2 Pepsi products and $1 hot dogs featuring Winter Sausage hot dogs and Harding's Friendly Markets buns.
