
Mallards Clinch Playoff Berth with 3-2 Win in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, SD - The Quad City Mallards (36-28-7) clinched a berth in the ECHL Kelly Cup playoffs by defeating the host Rapid City Rush (37-27-6) 3-2 Saturday night.
While t he third place Mallards' first round playoff schedule and opponent are still to be determined, tickets for Mallards' opening round home playoff games will go on sale Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the iWireless Center box office, Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com and Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000 . The Mallards will open their best-of-seven Division Semi-Final series during the week following their Saturday, April 11 regular season finale against the Tulsa Oilers.
Austin Coldwell broke 2-2 tie with a wrist shot from the left wing circle at 13:13 of the third period and the Mallards held on to the lead even after the Rush went up 5-on-3 just over two minutes later and emptied the net for an extra attacker with just over a minute remaining.
Mallard goaltender Parker Milner shined in preventing a late Rush equalizer and finished with 30 saves.
The Mallards found themselves in need of Coldwell's heroics after Winston Day Chief's tip in evened the score at two at 2:37 of the third.
The Mallards had taken a 2-1 lead when Matt Neal fired a rebound home from the left wing circle at 12:15 of the second period.
It was Rapid City's Brett Kostolansky who buried a rebound to open the scoring at 5:39 of the first period. The Mallards' Joe Perry tied the game at one by converting Justin Fox's centering pass at 17:51 of the first.
The Mallards return home to bring down the curtain on the regular season next Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. against Tulsa. Next Saturday will also be Fan Appreciation Night at the iWireless Center.
