Everblades Slip Past Stingrays 3-1

Estero, FL - The South Carolina Stingrays (44-20-1-6) fell to the Florida Everblades (47-15-2-5) 3-1 at Germain Arena Saturday evening snapping a three-game winning streak and goaltender Jeff Jakaitis' 16-game winning streak. Despite the loss, the Stingrays are 26-2-0 since February 7.

Everblades forward Matt Marquardt opened the scoring early in the first period firing from the blue line, through a screen and past Jakaitis (L, 21 saves on 24 shots) at 5:56. Stingrays forward Rob Ricci evened the score 4:10 into the middle frame redirecting a shot from forward Derek DeBlois under the blocker of Everblades goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic (W, 14 saves on 15 shots). Team captain Andrew Rowe picked up the second assist. Marquardt put the Everblades back in front at 15:38 capitalizing on a bounce off Stingrays defenseman Michal Cajokovsky.

Forward Ray Kaunisto sealed the victory for the Everblades in the third period tapping in a pass from Marquardt past the glove of Jakaitis at 12:00. The Stingrays finished the game 0-for-3 on the power play while the Everblades went 0-for-4.

The Stingrays close the regular-season schedule on Saturday, April 11 against the Evansville IceMen at 7:05 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Fan Appreciation Night and The Post and Courier Hall of Fame Night. The first 1,000 fans receive a 2014-15 Stingrays team photo courtesy of Sheila Lauffer of Data Imaging and a new member of the Stingrays Hall of Fame will be inducted during the first intermission.
