Cougars set new world record

GENEVA, IL - Kane County Cougars fans have unofficially broken the Guinness World Record for the world's largest pillow fight, eclipsing the previous Guinness record of 3,648 people. Following this evening's game, 3,872 fans descended upon the Elfstrom Stadium outfield grass and took part in a memorable 90-second pillow fight. The historic try, sponsored by Back to Bed included both young and old fans, families with children and groups of teenagers. Many anxious Cougars faithful arrived to the ballpark with pillows brought from home, some containing pillowcases that were homemade creations featuring the Cougars' logo and team colors. With the help of Back to Bed, fans were also provided regulation pillows that were used during the attempt.
Both participants and observers agreed that the pillow fight was one of the most unique and entertaining promotions in the 18-year history of the Cougars organization, which has provided an enjoyable, affordable and entertaining fan experience since the franchise's start in 1991.
Throughout tonight's pillow fight, fans were seen erupting in uncontrollable laughter as they swung their pillows. Just seconds into the fight, spectators observed a thick blanket of white feathers that were strewn across the right field grass in the designated "red zone". Cougars staff divided the outfield grass into three "levels of aggression" - a green zone for families with small children, a yellow zone for families of teenagers, and a red zone for adults.
"The sights and sounds tonight as part of our world record attempt are exactly what going to a Cougars game is all about - having fun and creating memories that will last a lifetime," Cougars General Manager Jeff Sedivy said. "We'd like to thank all of our pillow-fighting participants, including Back to Bed for being a part of history and an evening that will be talked about for a long time."
The Proft family of Vernon Hills was just one of many families who took part in the historic attempt. The family of five included children Madison, Noah and Taylor.
"It was a fantastic time and we were really excited that our kids had this opportunity," Kari Proft said. "This is something they'll never forget."
Next week, the Cougars front office staff will submit information to the Guinness World Record office and wait for official recognition that the pillow-fighting record has been verified. Similar to last year's pillow fight attempt, the Cougars plan on posting video on their website, www.kccougars.com as well as www.youtube.com.
