Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release

The South Bend Silver Hawks used a seven run fourth inning to take the first game of a three game series from the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 7-3, in a five inning, rain shortened game at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday night.

Heavy rains and dangerous lightning forced the game to be halted at the end of the fifth inning. After a 75 minute delay, the game was finally called.

Clay Fuller hit his league-leading 12th double of the season and Jay Brossman, Tyler Johnson and Jeremy Moore each had a double. Brossman, Hector Estrella and Braulio Pardo also had an RBI.

Kernels starter Robert Fish (7-3) allowed seven runs (four earned) on six hits, walked three and struck out three over 3.2 innings in taking the loss.

South Bend starter Cristian Beltre (8-7) picked up the win and Eli Rumler was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.
