Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
BELOIT, WI - Beloit Snapper starting pitcher Steven Hirschfeld struck out eight over seven innings and allowed one run to get his sixth win of the season. Beloit broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the sixth inning and sent the Rattlers to a season low 22 games below .500.
Ron Garth gave Wisconsin (5-23 second half, 36-58 overall) a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Garth's two-out single drove in Daniel Carroll from third base.
The Snappers (17-11, 53-43) tied the game in the bottom of the third inning with a two-out RBI single of their own. Ben Revere, the leading hitter in the Midwest League, lined an 0-2 pitch from Rattler starter Brett Lorin into center and Andrew Schmiesing scored from second base to make the score 1-1.
Lorin made his second good start in a row as a Rattler. He allowed one run on five hits, struck out five, and walked none over five innings. But, he would get a no decision.
Beloit snapped the tie with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Keith Meyer relieved Lorin to start the inning and got into trouble immediately. Revere singled. Juan Richardson followed with a single. Then, Meyer hit Marc Dolenc to load the bases with no outs.
An infield single by Jeanfred Brito drove in the first run. Meyer hit Allan de San Miguel with the next pitch to force in the second run of the inning. Natividad Dilone relieved Meyer and walked Schmiesing to force in the final run of the inning for a 4-1 Beloit lead.
Beloit kept adding on runs. A sacrifice fly by Richardson in the seventh inning knocked in a run to make the score 5-1. In the eighth inning, a sacrifice fly by Schmiesing and an RBI single by Estarlin De Los Santos finished off the scoring for the Snappers.
Hirschfeld turned the game over to the Beloit bullpen after seven innings. Danny Hernandez walked two, but also struck out a pair in a scoreless eighth.
Wisconsin got to Charles Nolte in the ninth. An RBI grounder by Juan Diaz drove home pinch runner Alex Meneses. But, that was all the Rattlers could muster in the ninth.
Game two of the three game series is Sunday afternoon at Pohlman Field. Jake Wild (3-6, 4.45 is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Beloit sends Mike Tarsi (4-9, 5.50) to the mound. Game time is 2:00pm.
