Dayton Dragons News Release

Clinton, Iowa-The Dayton Dragons and the Clinton Lumber Kings were suspended after 12 innings on Saturday night with the game tied 1-1. Heavy rain hit the Clinton area late Saturday night. The game will be resumed at 3:00 p.m. (EDT) on Sunday with the regularly-scheduled nine inning game to follow.

The teams battled in a pitcher's duel for 12 innings on a hot and humid night in northeastern Iowa.

Clinton broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning. With one out, Jonathan Greene picked up an infield single on a ground ball that deflected off Dragons pitcher Daniel Guerrero. With two outs, Jose Felix blooped a double that was fair by inches down the left field line and Greene scored from first to give the Lumber Kings the lead.

The Dragons tied the game in the eighth and nearly took the lead. Denis Phipps lined a single to center and went to second when Devin Mesoraco walked. A pair of wild pitches brought in Phipps to tie the game and moved Mesoraco to third with no one out. Michael McKennon popped up to second for the first out. Angel Cabrera hit a long fly ball to right that was caught by Kyle Murphy just short of the warning track. But as Mesoraco tagged at third, Murphy fired a strike to the catcher on the fly and Mesoraco was tagged out to preserve the tie.

Both teams had chances over the next several innings but could not deliver the big hit as the game remained tied.

In Sunday's regularly scheduled game, Matt Klinker (5-4, 3.52) will start for Dayton.

Notes: Dragons reliever Jeff Jeffords struck out the side on the minimum nine pitches in the seventh inning. Only one pitch was fouled.
