Cougars Drop Opener to Lugnuts

GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars fell behind right away Saturday night against the Lansing Lugnuts and never recovered, losing, 8-2, in the opener of a three-game series in front of 11,810 at Elfstrom Stadium.

Starter Anthony Capra (0-1), in his Elfstrom debut, gave up five runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings, putting the Cougars in an early hole. Michael Richard moved his hitting streak to 11 games with a third-inning RBI single off Chi-Hung Cheng to cut it to 5-1, but the Lugnuts managed an unearned run in the fourth to make it 6-1.

The Cougars added what became their final run with Todd Johnson's run-scoring single in the fifth, and Lansing tacked on two unearned runs in the ninth against Leonardo Espinal to account for the 8-2 final.

The Cougars (10-18), who have lost 10 of their last 13, continue their set with Lansing (18-11) Sunday afternoon at 2 CT. Chad Kerfoot (5-1, 2.23) will face Trystan Magnuson (0-8, 5.95).
