Cougars Rumble over LumberKings

CLINTON, Iowa - Jorge Bonifacio's sixth-inning grand slam pulled the Kane County Cougars from behind in a 13-10 victory over the Clinton LumberKings on Wednesday night from Ashford University Field.

Bonifacio batted with one out against reliever David Colvin (1-1), who allowed the Cougars (28-25) to fill the bases with a single, walk and hit batsman. Bonifacio wasted little time against Colvin as he blasted his fourth home run of the season and his second in as many games.

Bonifacio's shot put the Cougars on top, 11-9. Both clubs traded blows through the first five innings of the contest. Jin-Ho Shin cracked his first homer of the season in the second to put the Cougars up, 3-0. Clinton (18-34) roared back with three in the bottom of the third against Brooks Pounders and took the lead in the fourth by scoring five times.

Pounders left after 3.1 innings. Jharmidy De Jesus and Ramon Morla hit home runs for the LumberKings with Morla's coming in the bottom of the ninth against Mike Giovenco (S, 1), who worked three innings. Malcom Culver (1-1) kept Clinton fairly quiet in his 2.2 frames as he surrendered just one tally.

The Cougars are on the road Thursday night when they take on the LumberKings from Ashford University Field at 7:00 p.m. Right-hander Robinson Yambati (1-1) starts for the Cougars against southpaw Jordan Shipers (2-0).
