Bourgeois Goes Deep, Hawks Fall to Dragons

DAYTON, OHIO - Marc Bourgeois hit his team-leading fifth home run Wednesday but the Silver Hawks fell to the Dayton Dragons 9-6 in the opening game of a three-game series at Fifth Third Field.

The Silver Hawks (27-26) are now 2-3 on their current seven-game road trip.

Radhames Quezada (2-6) started and got the win for the Dragons, allowing just one earned run on five hits over five innings. The right-hander struck out a season-high eight batters and walked just two. Archie Bradley (6-2) lost his first game since April 5, allowing a career-high nine runs - eight earned - on six hits over 4.1 innings.

The Dragons knocked Bradley out of the game with a five-run fifth inning in which 10 men came to the plate. Yovan Gonzalez hit a three-run double off Kable Hogben to put the Dragons up 9-1 - all three runs on the double were charged to Bradley. Hogben recorded the final two outs of the fifth inning.

Trailing 4-0 in the fifth inning, Bourgeois drilled a solo home run to right-center to put the Silver Hawks on the scoreboard. The Dragons responded with five runs the following half inning.

After Quezada departed, the Silver Hawks scored four runs against Dragons reliever Cole Green. Roidany Aguila doubled in two runs while Niko Gallego and Chris Ellison added RBI ground outs to cut the margin to 9-5. Matt Helm notched an RBI single in the ninth inning to cut the deficit to three.

The Dragons scored in their first three offensive innings to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Joe Terry singled in a run in the first inning while Kyle Waldrop doubled in a run in the second and later scored on a wild pitch. Kurtis Muller hit a solo home run in the third inning.

Tom Belza, Fidel Pena, Ellison and Bourgeois all recorded two hits for South Bend. Eight of nine Silver Hawks starters recorded at least one hit.

Muller and Terry tallied two hits for the Dragons.

Hogben tossed 1.2 scoreless innings. Willy Paredes struck out three over two scoreless frames.

The Silver Hawks and Dragons continue the series Thursday night at Fifth-Third Field. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. Left-hander John Pedrotty (2-3, 5.37) starts for South Bend and he will be opposed by southpaw Tanner Robles (3-3, 3.98).
