The big inning for Burlington broke open a 1-1 game and dropped the Chiefs to 23-30 on the season in the first game of a six-game roadtrip.
The Chiefs grabbed the first run of the game in the top of the second against Seth Frankoff. Javier Baez was hit by a pitch with one out and he advanced to third on a single by Yasiel Balaguert. Yaniel Cabezas put the Chiefs up 1-0 with a single to left before Frankoff retired the next two batters to keep the Chiefs from extending the lead.
Burlington bounced back immediately against Ben Wells in the bottom of the second. Wade Kirkland doubled with one out and Ryan Pineda beat out a sac bunt back to the mound. Kirkland motored home to tie the game when Wells threw wildly to first as Pineda advanced to second.
Three innings later the Bees broke the game wide open against reliever Starling Peralta. A leadoff walk to B.A. Vollmuth and a single to Rashun Dixon put two on with nobody out. After a sac bunt, Aaron Shipman gave Burlington a 3-1 lead with a double to right. A throwing error by Baez at short put runners on the corners and Shipman scored on a groundout by Pineda. Peralta walked the next two batters on nine pitches before Chih-Fang Pan connected on a grand slam to right for an 8-1 Burlington lead.
The Bees putt the game away in the sixth against reliever Felix Pena. Dixon singled and with one out Shipman worked a walk before Kirkland singled to load the bases. Pienda singled home Dixon and Shipman scored on a sacrifice fly as the Bees posted a 10-1 lead.
