Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - Todd Glaesmann hit two home runs, but the Bowling Green Hot Rods (28-25) fell to the Lansing Lugnuts (38-14) 6-4 in ten innings on Wednesday night at Bowling Green Ballpark. Trailing 4-2 in the ninth inning, Glaesmann and Josh Sale hit back-to-back home runs to tie the score, but the Lugnuts added two runs in the top of the tenth to take game one of the three-game set.
Glaesmann placed the Hot Rods in front with his first home run of the game, a two-run shot with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. The Hot Rods did not score again until the ninth. Lansing tied the score on a two-run single by Chris Hawkins with two outs in the third inning. The score remained tied at two until the Lugnuts scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning.
Trailing 4-2 heading to the bottom of the ninth, Glaesmann launched his second home run of the game, a solo home run that brought the Hot Rods to within one. The next batter was Josh Sale, who belted a towering homer out to right-centerfield after a lengthy battle with Lugnut closer Ajay Meyer. Just two batters into the bottom of the ninth, the Hot Rods had tied the score at four apiece.
However, the Hot Rods were unable to add the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. Lansing capitalized in the top of the tenth when Kenny Wilson tripled with two outs to put the Lugnuts back out in front by two runs. The Hot Rods were retired in order in the bottom of the ninth, dramatically dropping game one of the three-game series with Lansing.
The Hot Rods continue the six-game homestand with the middle game of the three-game series with the Lansing Lugnuts (Future Blue Jays). Bowling Green will send LHP Ryan Carpenter (5-2, 3.86) to the mound, while Lansing will counter with LHP Justin Nicolino (2-0, 1.03).
