Lansing Lugnuts News Release
BOWLING GREEN, Kent. - Kenny Wilson laced a two-out, two-run triple in the top of the 10th to give the Lansing Lugnuts (38-14) a 6-4 victory over the Bowling Green Hot Rods (28-25) in the opener of a three-game series on Wednesday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.
The Lugnuts and Hot Rods were tied until the top of the ninth when Lansing scored a pair without the benefit of a base hit; Kevin Pillar was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and a throwing error by the Hot Rods reliever Charlie Cononie allowed Gustavo Pierre to score and important insurance run.
In the bottom of the ninth, Ajay Meyer (Win, 2-1) allowed back-to-back home runs to open the frame before finishing the inning with three groundouts to send the game into extras.
After Wilson's triple in the top of the 10th off Trevor Shull (Loss, 0-2), Blake McFarland (Save, 1) tossed a perfect bottom half with two strikeouts to give Lansing their fourth consecutive victory.
Marcus Walden threw well for the Lugnuts in his eleventh start of the year, firing six innings and allowing four hits, two runs and two walks while striking out four.
Chris Hawkins was 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI and a double. Wilson entered the game as a pinch-runner in the ninth and scored a run before his run-scoring triple.
The Lugnuts continue a six-game road trip on Thursday, May 31st at 8:05 p.m. The Lugs send top prospect, lefty Justin Nicolino (2-0, 1,03) to the mound opposite lefthander Ryan Carpenter (5-2, 3.86) in the middle affair of the three-game series against the Hot Rods.
The Lugnuts will return home for a six-game homestand beginning on Wednesday, June 6th at 7:05 p.m. with a Ladies Night against the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
