Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa (MAY 30, 2012) - Quad Cities pounded out 12 runs on 10 hits in the first inning off Beloit right-hander Tim Shibuya, and Anthony Garcia had a two-home run game, in a 20-3 win over the Beloit Snappers on Wednesday night at Modern Woodmen Park, in front of 1,604 fans.

The first ten Quad Cities' batters that came to the plate scored to start the inning. A bases-clearing double by left fielder Anthony Garcia made it a 5-0 game, and that started a streak of six straight base hits for the River Bandits - a season high. In his second at-bat in the inning, Garcia hit a two-run home run to center field to close out the 12-run, 10-hit inning for Quad Cities and end the night of righthander Tim Shibuya (2-3), who lasted just 2/3 of an inning, allowing 12 earned runs on 10 hits. The River Bandits set a season-high in runs, total batters and hits in a single inning during the frame.

The River Bandits (27-26) added another run in the fourth when Garcia hit a solo home run to left field for his second homer of the night.

It was his second career two-home run game, with the first coming last August 10 as a member of the Johnson City Cardinals against Bristol.

Right-hander Sam Gaviglio (3-3) did not allow a run until the fifth inning, when a single by A.J. Petterson scored first baseman Adam Bryant, who had doubled to lead off the inning. The Quad Cities' starter pitched seven innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits while striking out five and walking two.

Quad Cities tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth on a single by Tyler Rahmatulla and added six more in the seventh inning.

Eleven batters came to the plate for the River Bandits in the inning, and collected three walks and four hits - one of which was right fielder Nick Martini's first professional home run, a two-run shot that cleared the ribbon board on the right field wall.

The Snappers (31-22) benefitted from two wild pitches in the late innings that led to runs. Beloit scored one run in the seventh off Gaviglio and once in the eighth off right-handed reliever Willy Paulino.

All nine River Bandits had a base hit and scored a run for the second time in three games and seven Quad Cities' players scored multiple runs. Colin Walsh extended his on-base streak to 22 games, setting a new season-high for Quad Cities.

Quad Cities will host Beloit for the second game of the series Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. Left-hander Dail Villanueva (3-2) will start for Quad Cities and left-hander Steven Gruver (3-4) will start for Beloit.
