Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the South Bend Silver Hawks (affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks) in the first game of a three-game series. Season Series: Dayton 2, South Bend 2. Road Trip: Dayton went 2-5 on the trip that ended Tuesday. They went 2-2 in the four-game set at West Michigan to conclude the trip.
Last Game: West Michigan defeated Dayton 8-0 on Tuesday to earn a split of the four-game series. The Dragons collected eight hits, led by Kurtis Muller, who was 3 for 4 with a stolen base. Sean Buckley had two hits including a double.
Today's Dragons Starting Pitcher: Radhames Quezada makes his 11th start of the season tonight. Quezada suffered the loss in his last start last Friday at Lansing (3 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO). He has lost his last three starts, allowing 16 runs (14 earned) in 11.1 innings. He has made one start vs. South Bend this season and did not receive a decision in that game on April 12 on the road (6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO). He is a 21-year-old native of the Dominican Republic who is in his fifth year in the Reds organization. He signed as a 17-year-old international free agent in 2007. He played at Billings in 2011, going 2-3, 3.83 in 10 starts.
Individual Notes
* Kyle Waldrop was selected as the Midwest League Batter of the Week for the week of May 21-27. He is batting .370 over his last seven games (10 for 27) and has hit two homers in his last five games (first two homers of the year). He has raised his average from .237 to .266.
* Ryan Wright was 0 for 2 on Tuesday and left the game in the fifth inning with a sprained wrist as his 11-game hitting streak came to an end. He hit .478 over the course of the streak, the second highest batting average for any hitting streak of 10 games or more in the league this season. Over Wright"Ÿs last 12 games, he is batting .457 (21 for 46) with eight doubles to raise his average from .273 to .315. He has had at least two hits in eight of the 12 games.
* Kurtis Muller is 15 for 34, .441, with two home runs in eight games since joining the Dragons. He has hit safely in seven of the eight games.
* Sean Buckley is batting .357 over his last eight games (10 for 28) with a home run and four doubles.
