Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, have announced that pitcher Jose Guzman has re-joined the Cougars roster from Short-A Vancouver, while pitcher Brett Hunter has been transferred to the A's rookie league affiliate in Arizona. Also, Cougars outfielder David Thomas has been placed on the disabled list with a fractured left pinky finger. As a result, the squad's active roster is reduced to 23 players as the Cougars open a three-game series this evening at Elfstrom Stadium against the Dayton Dragons.

Guzman (Non-drafted FA, 2005) was part of the Cougars' Opening Day roster and spent April and most of May with the club, going 1-1 with a 7.00 ERA and four saves. Since then, Guzman had been with the Vancouver Canadians, posting a 0-1 record, 2.61 ERA and six saves.

Hunter (7th Rd, 2008) was 0-1 with a 6.85 ERA in 21 appearances. Hunter was part of the Cougars' Opening Day roster and opened the season in the starting rotation before moving into the bullpen near the end of May.

Thomas (14th Rd, 2008) has had two different tours of duty for the Cougars this season, beginning the year in Kane County before being transferred to Stockton (Class-A Advanced) on April 29. Thomas returned as part of a multi-player transaction on June 25. In 36 games this season for Kane County, Thomas was batting .273 with four home runs and 13 RBI.
