Cougars Losing Streak Reaches Five

GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars' season-high losing streak reached five Saturday night, as the Cougars dropped the opener of a three-game series to the Dayton Dragons, 4-2, in front of a crowd of 13,177 at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars have scored just four runs in 47 innings during the skid. Shawn Haviland (6-7) suffered the loss, yielding four runs on seven hits over five innings. A.J. Huttenloker and Daniel Thomas threw two innings apiece of scoreless relief to give the Cougars' offense a chance.

The Cougars trailed 4-0 in the third when Dusty Coleman singled in Leonardo Gil. Their other run came in the ninth on a Petey Paramore sacrifice fly following a Franklin Hernandez triple. Matt Fairel (8-5) got the win for Dayton, and Donnie Joseph posted his first save.

The Cougars (13-15, 54-44) and Dragons (13-15, 41-57) battle again Sunday afternoon at 2 CDT. Murphy Smith (0-0, 0.00) will oppose Curtis Partch (7-7, 4.68).
