Peoria, IL - In front of a crowd of 6,758, the Peoria Chiefs pounded the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 9-1, Saturday night at O'Brien Field. The Chiefs scored seven runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach and give Peoria their third-straight win. Wisconsin took the lead in the third against starter Jeff Beliveau. With two down, Brett Lawrie hit a shot over the left-field wall on a 3-2 pitch to give the Timber Rattlers an early 1-0 lead. The Chiefs answered back quickly in their half of the third. Junior Lake led off the inning with a single and stole second with D.J. Fitzgerald batting. As Fitzgerald swung at strike three, a passed ball allowed Lake to take third and Fitzgerald was safe at first. With Drew Rundle swinging at strike three, Fitzgerald stole second to put himself in scoring position with one down. With the second out recorded, Ryan Flaherty reached on a fielding error by Lawrie which also scored Lake to tie the game 1-1. Peoria took their first lead against Wisconsin starter, Trey Watten, in the fourth. Kyler Burke led off the inning with his eighth home run of the season to give the Chiefs a 2-1 advantage. The Chiefs offense exploded, scoring seven runs in the sixth. With one out, Burke hit his 32nd double of the season and scored on a single by Michael Brenly to make it 3-1. Jovan Rosa drew a walk to advance Brenly to second. Lake singled to third base to advance both base runners. With Nelson Perez batting, a wild pitch by Watten scored Brenly and advanced Rosa and Lake to their respective bases. Perez doubled to right field to plate Rosa and Lake to give the Chiefs a 6-1 lead. After the second out of the inning was recorded, David Macias reached on Lawrie's second fielding error of the game and advanced Perez to third. Flaherty hit a shot over the left-field wall for his 13th home run of the season to score Perez and Macias and give the Chiefs a 9-1 lead. The Timber Rattlers never threatened against relievers Kevin Kreier and Marcus Hatley through four innings. Hatley retired the first two batters he faced in the ninth and allowed one hit before getting Michael Marseco to fly out to end the game. Beliveau (5-3) threw five innings, giving up one run on four hits in his fifth win of the season. The left-hander didn't walk a single batter and struck out four. Kreier came on in relief and gave up one hit while not walking or striking out a batter in his two innings of work.
