Lansing Lugnuts News Release

BELOIT, Wisc. - Chad Beck scattered eight hits while allowing two unearned runs over eight innings, leading the Lansing Lugnuts (10-17; 36-60) over the Beloit Snappers (11-16; 38-59), 7-3, in the opener of a three-game series on Saturday night at Pohlman Field.

Luis Fernandez's first inning error led to Jon Waltenbury's two-out two-run single off of Beck in the first inning, giving the Snappers an early 2-0 lead.

The Lugnuts' starter quickly settled into a rhythm in working at least seven innings for the fourth time in his past five starts. Beck (4-4) allowed only four more hits over the next seven innings, setting down nine of the last 10 batters he faced.

Meanwhile, his teammates responded.

Chris House's two-run single off of Beloit starter Daniel Osterbrock (4-9) tied the score in the top of the second inning.

In the sixth, Johermyn Chavez's 16th home run of the season gave Lansing a 3-2 lead. Five batters later, Kenny Wilson lined a two-run double into left field to increase the advantage to 5-2.

The Lugnuts tacked on two more runs in the eighth inning, offsetting a Jeffrey Lanning solo home run in the bottom of the ninth off of Yorman Mayora.

Each member of Lansing's starting nine finished the game with a base hit in a 13-hit barrage.

The Lugnuts and Snappers play the second game in their three-game series at Beloit on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. Right-hander Chris Holguin (0-0, 5.23) starts for Lansing opposite Snappers right-hander Bobby Lanigan (7-6, 4.91).
