Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Burlington, IA - The Fort Wayne TinCaps saw their seven-game win streak come to a halt Saturday at Community Field as they fell, 3-2, to the Burlington Bees. Allan Dykstra scored both Fort Wayne runs.
The TinCaps took the lead in the top of the 2nd. Back-to-back walks to Dykstra and Justin Baum put two on with nobody out. Two batters later, Yefri Carvajal drilled a single up the middle. Dykstra scored easily from third, but Baum was thrown out at the plate.
In the 4th, the TinCaps extended the lead. Dykstra nailed a double high off the right-field fence. Cole Figueroa singled him home with two out to give Fort Wayne a 2-0 advantage.
The Bees battled back in the bottom of the 5th. Juan Graterol's ground-rule double put runners at second and third with one out. Two batters later, Adrian Ortiz ripped a twoout RBI single to right scoring Antonio Jimenez. Graterol tried to score from second, but Carvajal threw him out at the plate to end the inning and keep the TinCaps in front, 2-1.
In the 6th, Burlington plated the tying and go-ahead runs against Fort Wayne RHP Chris Fetter. Fernando Garcia reached on a leadoff walk to start the rally. Later in the inning, Nick Francis drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Jimenez then punched an RBI single to right, scoring Francis to give Burlington the lead.
The TinCaps did not score again as the Burlington bullpen took over the game. Fort Wayne threatened in the 9th, moving the tying run to scoring position, but with runners at first and second and one out, Carvajal hit a hard bouncer toward the middle. Garcia, the second baseman, made a diving stop and flipped the ball out of his glove to start a sensational 4-6-3 game-ending double play.
Fetter (0-1) took the loss as Manauris Baez (5-4) picked up the win. RHP James Thompson notched his 5th save.
The TinCaps and Burlington Bees (Class-A Kansas City Royals) continue the three-game series Sunday in a 3:00pm Eastern start. RHP
