
Baez Pitches Bees to One-Run Victory

Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees opened their series with the Ft. Wayne TinCaps with a 3-2 win Saturday night at Community Field. Manauris Baez pitched 6.2 innings allowing two runs as he won his second game in a row.
Ft. Wayne scored the first two runs of the game scoring one run in both the second and third innings. The Bees cut their deficit to one run when they scored one run in the fifth inning. Antonio Jimenez led the inning off with a single and moved to third on a one out Juan Graterol double. Jimenez then scored on an Adrian Ortiz base-hit.
The Bees took the lead scoring two runs in the sixth inning. Fernando Garcia led the inning off with a walk and moved to second on a wild-pitch. Jason Taylor then singled, which moved Garcia to third. Garcia scored to tie the game when Nick Francis reached on a Fielder's Choice. Francis was forced to second when David Wood walked. Francis then scored the go-ahead run on a Jimenez RBI single. The Bees held on to the lead and the game ended on a spectacular double-play turned by Garcia and Jimenez.
Baez got the start for the Bees and was very good. In 6.2 innings, he allowed two runs on five hits with two strikeouts and three walks. He picked up the win to move to 5-4 on the season. The five wins are the most of any Bees pitcher this season. Blaine Hardy pitched 1.1 no-hit innings with three strikeouts and no walks for his third hold of the season. James Thompson picked up his fifth save pitching the ninth allowing just one hit and one walks.
The Bees outhit the TinCaps 9-6. Jimenez and Graterol each had two hits.
The Bees continue three-game series against Ft. Wayne Sunday afternoon at Community Field. Ivor Hodgson is the scheduled starter for the Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 2:-0.
