Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Kansas City Royals, have announced that pitcher Mitch Hodge has been placed on the disabled list with right elbow stiffness. Pitcher Alex Rivers has joined the Cougars from the Burlington Royals (Rookie League) and will take Hodge's place on the active roster. The Cougars maintain an active squad of 25 players as the team opens a four-game series at Beloit this evening.

Entering play this evening, the Cougars hold a two-game lead over Clinton and a four-game lead over Beloit for the Western Division's top second half postseason spot. Hodge (4th round, 2007) has pitched in 26 games out of the Cougars' bullpen this season and is 2-1 with a 6.56 ERA. Rivers (39th round, 2010) was 1-1 with a 1.02 ERA in nine games at Burlington. A native of California, Rivers attended Santa Clara University and was part of a combined no-hitter last August with the Idaho Falls Chukars (Rookie League-Advanced).
