
Bandits Win Series Opener With Kernels

Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
The Quad Cities River Bandits edged the Cedar Rapids Kernels 3-2 win in front of 2,008 fans at Perfect Game Field in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The River Bandits began the scoring in the third inning when Kolten Wong (3-for-5) hit a single to score Ronny Gil (2-for-3). Later in the inning, Cody Stanley (1-for-4) doubled to score Nick Longmire (0-for-5) to put the Bandits up 2-0.
Cedar Rapids threatened scoring one run in the fifth and one in the bottom of the eighth, but couldn't continue the rally.
In the eighth inning, Colin Walsh (3-for-4) doubled to score Jonathan Rodriguez (2-for-4) to give the Bandits a 3-1 lead. The Bandits held on to win 3-2.
Bandit starter Ryan Copeland (W, 4-1) went seven strong innings allowing one unearned run on seven hits. Copeland struck out six on his way to his fourth straight victory. Justin Edwards (S,1) came into the game in the ninth and pitched one scoreless inning striking out one.
Copeland was opposed by Kernels starter P.J. Jang (L, 1-3). Jang went seven innings allowing two runs on 10 hits.
The River Bandits continue the series with Cedar Rapids on Wednesday. Bandit righty Seth Blair (5-3, 4.83) will oppose Kernels right-hander Brian Diemer (8-8, 3.46). First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. at Perfect Game Field in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
