LANSING, Mich. - The South Bend Silver Hawks (17-20, 51-55) trailed Egan Smith and the Lansing Lugnuts (23-14, 61-43) for the first seven innings and a forty-four minute rain delay Tuesday night, but jumped on reliever Brandon Berl for four runs in the eighth to win 6-3 on Jackson Field.

Roberto Ortiz lead off the eighth with a bloop double, and after an error and a Niko Gallego sacrifice bunt, Silver Hawks first baseman Yazy Arbelo crushed a Berl (Loss, 3-2) fastball into the night, putting the game out of reach.

The blown save spoiled a sterling start by the Lugnuts' Smith, who surrendered just two runs on five hits in seven innings of work.

The offense was anchored once again by Marcus Knecht, who turned in a 3-for-4 night with two singles, two runs scored, a double and a run driven in. Markus Brisker notched a double and a 2-for-4 night, and Oliver Dominguez had his second 0-for-0 night in three games, turning in three walks and a sacrifice fly.

Chris Odegaard (Win, 2-0) entered in relief to work two innings for South Bend, allowing one run on one hit, but coming away with his second win of the season.

The Silver Hawks start J.R. Bradley (4-12, 4.79) Wednesday, while the Lugnuts have yet to announce their starter for game two of the series, a Ladies Night at Cooley Law School Stadium. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
