Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI - The home run parade for the Kane County Cougars started in the fourth inning when Kevin David smoked the offering from Snappers starting pitcher Manuel Soliman well over the center field wall at Pohlman Field. That would be the first of three lead off home runs the Cougars would hit on the night. The Snappers tried to spark a ninth inning rally, but eventually fell 6-2.
In that ninth inning, Lance Ray hit his Midwest League leading 31st double to left field to score Wang-Wei Lin. Michael Gonzales would then ground out to score Reggie Williams to make the score 6-2. After a Kane County pitching change to bring in Chas Byrne, Adam Bryant would ground into an inning ending double play to end the threat and the game.
Soliman would pitch six innings for the Snappers and allowed all four home runs to the Cougars. He finished up allowing five earned runs on eight hits. He struck out six and only walked one to suffer his eighth loss of the season and raised his ERA to 4.08. Bart Carter and Ben Tootle would combine for three innings of shutout baseball in relief, only allowing one hit.
Wang-Wei Lin, Reggie Williams and Derek McCallum would also add hits for the Snappers, who only managed five for the entire game. They would also commit two errors on defense to go along with the four they committed yesterday in a 5-4 loss in extra-innings to the Cedar Rapids Kernels.
The "Brodie Trophy Player of the Game," goes to Lance Ray who was 1-for-4 with his 31st double of the season and provided one of the two RBI. His season average is up to .271 and is now hitting third in the Snappers line-up.
The Snappers and Cougars will continue their four-game series tomorrow night at 7:00pm. Wednesday's mark Hump Day Happy Hour at the ballpark where sodas and 12oz drafts of Miller products are just $2 thanks to Pepsi and Ott-Schweitzer Distributing. Also, all game long the "Nacho Chicken Dog," and "Buffalo Chicken Dog," are just $3 at the Firehouse Grill.
The Beloit Snappers are a member of the Midwest League and a Class-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. For ticket information, contact the Snappers office at 608-362-2272 or visit the website at www.snappersbaseball.com.
