LINCOLN - A controversial call at second base led to two unearned runs for Gary SouthShore and a 7-6 RailCats win over the Saltdogs in front of 3,119 fans at Haymarket Park Wednesday night.

With the bases loaded and one out in the top of the eighth, Joe Ramos fielded a ground ball and threw it to shortstop Vance Albitz covering second base. The throw was in time but the runner was ruled safe at the base, and Albitz was charged with an error.

A few batters later, Cristian Guerrero stroked a two-out, two-run single to give the RailCats a 7-6 lead they would not relinquish.

The three-run Gary SouthShore inning came just moments after the 'Dogs had taken the lead in the last of the seventh on a Blake Gailen RBI single and a Gavin Dickey run-scoring double.

Former Creighton hurler Jeremy Hauer (2-0) pitched an inning in relief to get the win. Paul Koss (1-3) allowed three runs - one earned - in two innings to suffer the tough-luck loss. Travis Minnix worked a scoreless ninth to book his third save.

Gailen and Albitz each finished with multi-hit nights. Albitz was stranded on third to end the game after doubling to right center with one out earlier in the ninth.

The Saltdogs have now lost six games in a row.

The teams meet Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. for the series finale at Haymarket Park. Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.

Thursday night is a 'Thirsty Thursday' with $2 select draft beers and $1 tacos courtesy of Amigos. It's also College Night, where students get two Home Run Terrace tix for $10, and the 4th of July Fireworks Kickoff sponsored by Pepsi!
