Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release

SHREVEPORT, LA- The Shreveport-Bossier Captains, presented by U-Auto Pull-It Auto Parts, announced this morning that recent ban on fireworks inside Shreveport city limits will not interrupt the Independence Day celebration at Fair Grounds Field Saturday evening.

As reported on June 24 by Nisreen Hajaj of KSLA-12, several areas of the ArkLaTex are now under a fireworks ban. For those who wanted to celebrate the Fourth of July, the ban may alter their plans. The fireworks bans have been issued in Bossier City, Bossier Parish, and the City of Shreveport, and will go through the end of the month.

"No sale or discharge of class C fireworks, those ordinarily used by non-licensed civilians, shall be allowed in the jurisdictions of the City of Shreveport, City of Bossier City, and the Parish of Bossier throughout the month of June," said Shreveport Fire Chief Brian Crawford.

The decision was made by a coalition of local government officials. Chief Crawford says they considered three factors: loss of public enjoyment, loss of commercial revenue and the threat to public safety.

However, the ban does not affect community fireworks shows that are professionally done and closely monitored like the one the Shreveport-Bossier Captains and city of Shreveport has planned for the Fourth of July.

Which is outstanding news for the Captains and thousands of spectators that will attend Saturday's game against the Amarillo Sox. It's even better news for those who will be arriving at the stadium to pay tribute to our military heroes.

"Certainly we can appreciate and fully understand the city's concern for safety during the holiday with the ban of personal use fireworks", Captains general manager Chet Carey said. "We are grateful that city officials are permitting controlled shows to be done, so that our fans and residents can enjoy an evening at the ballpark".

After this home stand the Captains travel to Amarillo to begin a three-game series against the Sox and then head to Grand Prairie to take on the AirHogs for the last four games of the seven-game road trip. Captains return home on Friday, July 1. Season tickets and single-game tickets are available for purchase in-person or over the phone by visiting the Captains Executive Offices at 2901 Pershing Boulevard at Fair Grounds Field or by calling (318) 636-5555. VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express accepted.
