St. Paul Saints News Release
ST. PAUL, MN (June 29, 2011) - It took just over a month, but starting pitcher Donald Brandt finally picked up his fourth win of the season on Wednesday afternoon, as the St. Paul Saints defeated the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 8-0 in front of 5,298 fans at Midway Stadium.
Brandt was dazzling right from the start, striking out batters in every inning but one. He threw 7.2 innings of shutout ball, striking out 10 batters, a new career high. The lefty's high mark for his career prior to Wednesday was eight, which he did twice. Brandt yielded three hits and two walks. The last time a Saint struck out 10 in a game was back on August 8, 2009 when Mark Moriarty did it against the El Paso Diablos. Brandt improved his record to 4-2 on the season.
The Saints were once again efficient at the plate, posting eight runs on 10 hits. The Saints got things going in the third inning, as Adam Frost put the Saints up 1-0 on an RBI double. With two outs, Ole Sheldon drove in a run with a single and Brandon Tripp followed two batters later with a two-run double to make it 4-0 at the end of three frames.
Sheldon added two more RBI in the sixth inning with a two out, two-run single and drove in his final pair in the eighth with another two out single. Sheldon finished 3-5 with 5 RBI and a run scored.
The same two squads hook up again on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Alberto Rolon (4-1, 3.10) will get the ball for the Saints while RHP Alex Caldera (4-0, 2.41) will take the mound for the RedHawks. It is Minnesota Boxing Hall of Fame Night presented by 5 Eyewitness News. The game can be heard live Relevant Radio 1330.
