Condors Raise Over $10,000 for CASA
March 3, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
The Bakersfield Condors hosted a Jersey Off Our Backs Raffle and Auction on Sunday afternoon, February 29th, and $10,050 was raised for the CASA of Kern County.
The jerseys were worn on Saturday and Sunday, with the auction taking place after the game on Sunday, February 29th. That day was, of course, Leap Day, and the team's jerseys featured a Leap Year theme. KLLY 95.3 and O'Leary's Office Products sponsored the jerseys. It is the second year in a row the Condors have held a jersey auction to benefit CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. In addition to the auction, five jerseys were raffled off to fans in attendance at the game.
"We were just thrilled to see the excitement on the faces of the people who won the jerseys," said Rick Alvarado, volunteer recruiter with CASA. "At the same time, their generosity will go a long way toward helping out our charity. We were able to recruit some volunteers at the game as well, and it was a great night."
"CASA is a wonderful organization and we're happy to be able to help them out," said Condors GM Chris Freshour. "We owe a debt of gratitude to our fans and the sponsors for making this auction a huge success. They always seem to come through for our community."
The largest bid drawn was for defenseman Quinn Fair, whose jersey brought in $900 alone. Paul Willett, whose jersey raised $750, is still the all-time leader in Condors jersey auction history, with $13,350 total. Paul Rosebush is second on the list at $12,800.
The Condors are on the road in Alaska tonight for an 8:00pm (PST) match. They return home to play the Long Beach Ice Dogs on Sunday, March 7th at 2:00pm. All fans in attendance will receive a Condors "Splash Down" Poster, courtesy of Bright House Networks, Spanish Radio Group, and Everlasting Pools. Don't forget the Pre-Game Fiesta, hosted by Spanish Radio & El Californiano, which begins at Noon on Centennial Plaza. Also, wear your best pool party paraphernalia and you might qualify to go on the ice and shoot for a brand new car. Sunday is also Season ticket holder, Skate with the Condors. Immediately following the game all season ticket holders are invited to take to the ice with their Condors (limited skate rental available for $5.00).
All Condors games, home and away, can be heard on KGEO AM 1230 and online at www.bakersfieldcondors.com ( http://www.enn0.com/i.cfm?DID=623308&UID=48360422&MID=348259 ), with the "Voice of the Condors" Kevin Bartl providing the play-by-play.
