Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – With just eight wins in their last 22 games, the Alaska Aces pulled the trigger on a two-player deal Wednesday in an attempt to stop the bleeding, acquiring forward Bret DeCecco and defenseman Malcolm Hutt in exchange for cash and future considerations.

DeCecco had an assist and a +2 rating for Peoria in a three-game series at Sullivan Arena early this season, when Alaska took two of three from the Rivermen. He had played in 54 of Peoria's 57 games this season, scoring 10 goals and assisting on 14 others with a +2 rating and 92 minutes in penalties. The 5-11, 197-pound center will turn 24 in May and has been a consistent performer over his three years as a pro.

DeCecco, originally from Sherwood Park, Alberta, registered 34 points last year (15g-19a) for Peoria and 36 points (17g-19a) in his rookie campaign of 2001-02, when he split the season with the Rivermen as well as Greensboro and Roanoke. DeCecco started his junior career at the tender age of 15, spending parts of six seasons in the Western Hockey League, mostly in Seattle, where he erupted for 57 goals and 100 points in his draft year of 1998-99 after a 92-point season (36g-56a) the year before. The Buffalo Sabres selected DeCecco in the seventh round (206th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

Hutt, a 21-year-old defenseman from Wellesley, Ontario, was signed by Peoria in December after beginning the year in Canadian University for Wilfrid Laurier. He has four years of experience in the Ontario Hockey League for the Belleville Bulls, accumulating 103 points (17g-86a) and 165 PIM. In 37 games for Peoria, the 6-0, 190-pound Hutt contributed six assists and a +4 rating.

Alaska (30-23-4) looks to end a three-game losing streak at home tonight at 7:00 p.m. against Bakersfield, who shut out the Aces 3-0 last night for the second time this season at Sullivan Arena. Tonight's rematch will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
