Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska â Joe Watkins stopped all 22 shots he faced and Jason Jackman had a hand in all three Bakersfield goals as the Condors dealt the Alaska Aces their third straight loss, 3-0 before 3,066 Tuesday at Sullivan Arena.
Alaska outplayed Bakersfield for much of the first period but fell behind when Jackman fed Astrom for a one-timer at 10:52 of the first period for all the scoring that Watkins would need. The Aces outshot the Condors 9-6 over the first 20 minutes but managed just 13 shots on net thereafter, including only five in the final period. Watkins had been winless in 10 starts since December 14 before beating South Carolina Sunday, and he became the second Bakersfield goaltender this year to shut out Alaska at Sullivan Arena, the only two whitewashes the Aces have endured this season.
The Condors went up 2-0 when Jackman deked Alaska starter Dan Murphy (21 saves) at the 14:19 mark of the second period. Watkins was aided by three shots that hit the post, and Bakersfield sealed the victory when Jackman scored again on a Condor power play with 2:14 left in regulation. The loss marked Alaska's third consecutive defeat, only its second three-game losing streak of the season. The Aces also have lost three straight at home and five of six overall for the first time this year.
Alaska (30-23-4) still owns a 15-point bulge over the Condors (21-31-7) in the race for the Pacific Division's fourth and final playoff spot despite winning only eight of its last 22 games. Tomorrow night's rematch with Bakersfield at 7:00 p.m. will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
