Utica Comets News Release
Utica, NY - The Utica Comets fell behind 3-0 early but were able to muster up a comeback and tie the game before falling 6-5 in overtime to the Hershey Bears Friday night at the Adirondack Bank Center. Lukas Jasek scored twice, while Vincent Arseneau, Seamus Malone, and Carter Camper all scored one goal each. Michael DiPietro made six saves on nine shots before being replaced by Zane McIntyre in the first period. McIntyre made 18 saves on 21 shots in relief.
Garrett Pilon gave Hershey the lead when his shot off a faceoff beat DiPietro over the right pad. Pilon doubled the lead for the Bears 11 seconds later with a shot from the right circle. Kody Clark made it 3-0 a minute and a half after Pilon's goal. McIntyre replaced DiPietro following the goal.
A wild first period continued when Arseneau snuck a shot short side past Bears netminder Vitek Vanecek to get the Comets on the board at the 8:34 mark. Joe Snively regained the three-goal lead for Hershey with a wrist shot off the bar and in five minutes later.
The offense slowed in the second period, with the Comets holding Hershey to just three shots in the first 15 minutes. Malone deflected a shot from Olli Juolevi to bring the Comets back within two with 7:02 to go in the second period.
Four minutes into the third, Camper took a cross ice pass from Reid Boucher and lifted a wrister over the shoulder of Vanecek to pull the Comets within one. Jasek tied the game at four a minute and a half later when his long shot from the right circle squirted through the pads of Vanecek. Brian Pinho put Hershey back on top with a shorthanded goal with 7:06 to play in regulation. Jasek deposited a one-time feed from Justin Bailey two minutes later to tie things up at five and eventually send the game to overtime.
Mike Sgarbossa converted on the power play 2:35 into overtime to give Hershey the win.
The Comets are back in action tomorrow night on the road against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on 94.9 KROCK and viewed on AHLTV.
