
Clippers Shut out Indians, 2-0

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Clippers shut out the Indianapolis Indians for the second night in a row on Wednesday night, 2-0. Indy has dropped eight of their last ten games.
With runners at first and second with one out for starter James Marvel (L, 3-2), former Indianapolis Indians catcher, Ryan Lavarnway doubled down the left-field line to score two runs and seal the victory for Columbus (26-29) in the bottom of the seventh inning. Wilson Ramos and Oscar Gonzalez came around to score the only runs of the game after each reached base on singles.
The Indians (27-28) threatened in the top of the eighth inning when Taylor Davis reached on a throwing error by Gabriel Arias and Ethan Paul reached on a single through the shortstop. After a sacrifice bunt from Fabricio Macias moved the runners to second and third, Jordan Stephens (S, 4) retired the next two batters and cleared the bases.
With dark clouds rolling in at Huntington Park and a 37 minute rain delay, the game was called after eight complete innings.
Marvel took the mound for the Indians and earned his first quality start of the season throwing 6.1 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits. Nick Mears entered in the seventh inning and threw 1.2 scoreless innings with one strikeout.
Heath Fillmyer started for Columbus and shut down the Indy offense only giving up three hits and fanned four batters. Anthony Gose (W, 4-1) earned the win for the Clippers after throwing one shut out inning with one strikeout.
Indianapolis and Columbus will face off again on Thursday night at 7:05 PM ET. RHP Steven Wright (3-4, 5.80) will take the mound for the Indians against LHP Kirk McCarty (6-1, 4.11).
