July 7, 2021 - International League (IL)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
MOOSIC, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders split a doubleheader with the Syracuse Mets on Wednesday night at PNC Field. The RailRiders won the first game 3-2, and dropped the second 5-0 in a rain-shortened six-inning contest.
Making his first start since June 23, Brody Koerner was stellar in the opening game of the twin bill. The right-hander retired the first 12 batters he faced, and allowed only one run on two hits in 4.1 innings.
The RailRiders staked him to an early lead in the bottom of the second on a two-run single from Estevan Florial. In the third, Greg Allen brought in Armando Alvarez with an RBI double to give SWB a 3-0 lead.
Syracuse got on the board with a leadoff home run in the fifth from former RailRider Brandon Drury, and got another tally in the sixth on a solo homer by Chance Sisco off Trevor Lane (4-0), but that was all they could muster. Albert Abreu shut the door in the seventh to pick up his seventh save of the season and close out the game one win.
In game two, the Mets took a 1-0 lead five batters into the game on a Cameron Maybin RBI single. They tacked on three more against Brian Keller in the second and scratched across another in the sixth against Adam Warren to open up a 5-0 advantage.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre was held to only three hits through the first five innings of the game by Syracuse pitching. In the sixth, Ryan LaMarre drew a two-out walk against Bradley Roney and with a storm moving into the area, the tarp was put on the field. After a 32-minute delay for lightning, the game was called.
Trey Amburgey went 0-1 with a walk in the second game to extend his RailRiders record on-base streak to 40 consecutive games. Hoy Park went 2-for-3 with a walk in game one, but was 0-for-3 in the nightcap to see his on-base streak snapped at 30.
The loss in game two also ended a 12-game winning streak for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre against Syracuse.
The RailRiders continue their seven-game series with the Mets on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. RHP Deivi Garcia (1-3, 8.55) toes the rubber for SWB, while Syracuse answers with RHP Akeem Bostick (0-2, 7.66).
