Cincinnati RailRaiders News Release
HOUSTON, TX - Antti-Jussi Niemi scored a power-play goal late in the second period to lift the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks to a 1-1 tie with the Houston Aeros Friday at the Compaq Center.
Jason Shmyr scored in the second period and Jamie McLennan made 38 saves for the Aeros, who are 4-5-2-0 in their last 11 games.
Jason Elliott finished with 43 saves for Cincinnati, which earned a vital point with the tie and moved ahead of Rochester into ninth place in the tightly-bunched Western Conference playoff race.
Steve Brule picked up an assist on Niemi's game-tying goal to extend his point streak to a season-high seven games.
The Ducks open a two-game series with Hershey at the Cincinnati Gardens at 7:35 p.m. Saturday. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a set of Mighty Ducks 2001-2002 trading cards, courtesy of Gold Star Chili.
