Top 'Cat Named American Hockey League First Team All-Star

WORCESTER, MA -The American Hockey League (AHL) today announced that Worcester IceCats center Eric Boguniecki was named a First Team All-Star. The selection crowns a tremendous individual season for the New England native.

With 76 points in only 57 games, Boguniecki has already eclipsed several longstanding IceCats records. His 42 assists are five more than Fred Knipscheer's 1995-96 totals. Boguniecki passed Knipscheer's single-season record of 73 points in only his 56th game of 2001-2002. The former University of New Hampshire standout was leading the AHL in goals and points at that time, and one game and two points later, was promptly promoted to the IceCats National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate in St. Louis. Following a seven game stint with the Blues, he returned to the IceCats lineup last night. Despite missing 11 AHL games, Boguniecki is only two points off the League leaders (78 points). His 34 goals are three off the AHL pace, set by his teammate Justin Papineau.

Boguniecki attended his third consecutive AHL All-Star Classic this season, suiting up for PlanetUSA in St. John's. He notched three assists in the game. Additional accolades for 2001-2002 include being named the Sher-wood AHL Player of the Week in mid-January.

Since being acquired from the Florida Panthers organization during the 2000-2001 campaign, Boguniecki has blossomed as a member of the IceCats. Building on last season's foundation of 45 points-in 45 games for Worcester, Boguniecki has registered 24 multi-point games this season. That staggering statistic includes two hat tricks, two four-point games and seven three-point efforts. Three of his 34 goals have come shorthanded, including two in the same game.

Boguniecki is currently in the midst of a seven game point scoring streak. He began the season by registering a point in a season-high 11 consecutive games.

Last season, goaltender Dwayne Roloson became the first IceCat to be named a First Team All-Star. Defenseman Jamie Rivers was selected as a Second Team All-Star for his efforts in Worcester during the 1996-97 season.

The 'Cats host Lowell tonight and Providence on Saturday. Both games begin at 7:35 PM. Tickets are on sale now at all TicketMaster outlets, including the Box Office at Worcester's Centrum Centre.

CAT NIPS- Defenseman Christian Laflamme was recalled from Worcester to St. Louis this morning.
