Chihuahuas Use Big Fifth, Shutout Pitching to Wallop Vegas 10-0

The El Paso Chihuahuas pitched their second team shutout of the season Sunday afternoon at Southwest University Park, defeating the Las Vegas 51s 10-0. Chihuahuas starter Eric Lauer struck out 10 batters in six shutout innings.

El Paso sent 10 batters to the plate in a six-run fifth inning. Raffy Lopez went 4-for-5 with a solo home run and three RBIs in the game, while Travis Jankowski reached base four times atop the Chihuahuas order, going 3-for-4 with a hit by pitch and two runs scored.

Since the end of the second inning of Saturday's game, the Chihuahuas have scored 21 unanswered runs against the 51s. Trey Wingenter, Tyler Webb and T.J. Weir all pitched scoreless relief outings Sunday, giving the Chihuahuas bullpen seven consecutive shutout appearances.

El Paso pitching has struck out 28 Las Vegas hitters over the last two games.
