Fresno Grizzlies News Release
In front of a Sunday crowd of 6,422, the Fresno Grizzlies (8-3) defeated the Reno Aces (4-7) 5-0 from Chukchansi Park. With the victory, Fresno picked up their fifth straight win, eighth win in nine games and their sixth in a row versus Reno. The Grizzlies pitching allowed one hit and two walks, striking out seven. Both starters did not factor in the decision with Fresno starter Kent Emanuel twirling six scoreless innings, allowing one hit (infield hit) and striking out three. While Reno ace Braden Shipley tossed six shutout innings, scattering three hits, walking one and fanning five.
Fresno got on the board in the bottom of the seventh when Garrett Stubbs lasered a single to right. His hit was followed by an Alejandro Garcia bomb to left. The three-run shot gave the Grizzlies a 4-0 lead. It was Garcia's first home run of the season. It was also his first at Chukchansi Park, his second in Triple-A and his ninth overall. All four runs were tallied to Reno reliever Joey Krehbiel's (0-1) line. He lasted one-third of an inning, giving up three hits, four runs (earned), walking three and striking out one.
J.D. Davis extended the lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the eighth with a single, scoring Jon Kemmer (2-for-4). The five-run advantage was enough for Reymin Guduan (1-0) and Jacob Dorris, who combined for three scoreless frames.
Tony Kemp continued his team-high hit streak to nine games and Drew Ferguson (2-for-4) pushed his hit-streak to eight games.
The Grizzlies have won their third straight series to start the season and look for their first sweep tomorrow morning. Fresno RHP Mike Hauschild (0-1, 7.56) and Reno RHP Taylor Clarke (1-1, 7.56) are the probable pitchers. First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 am PT from Chukchansi Park.
