Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs bounced back in blue with a 2-1 victory over the Kelowna Rockets in front of a rowdy Friday night crowd at the Spokane Arena.
Scoreless through one period, the Chiefs would open the scoring in the second with a runaway Chevy.
Saige Weinstein snagged the loose puck off the faceoff deep in the Chiefs zone, played it up the left to Cole Wadsworth who fed Ty Cheveldayoff for the goal at 6:23 in the 2nd. For Chevy it was his 12th of the season and 19th point of the year, matching his total from all of last season. Wadsworth recorded an assist in his second straight game, and Weinstein wasn't done on the scoring front.
The good guys would go up 2-0 later in the 2nd thanks to a scrappy goal from Saiger. Bertholet drove hard down the left side to put a shot on net before sending his own rebound to Catton. Catton passed the puck to Weinstein who wasted no time snapping a wrist shot past the Rocket netminder from the right circle halfway through the period.
Kelowna clawed one back later in the frame with a Carmichael goal helped by the Peskett assist. For Carmichael it was just his second goal of the season and first since the middle of October.
Dawson Cowan was outstanding in net, showcasing his best performance of his young Chiefs career. The Warren, MB native stopped 43 of 44 shots for a whopping 0.977 save percentage on the night, earning 1st star honors and a post-game mobbing from his teammates.
The Chiefs showed out on the penalty kill as well, forcing the Rockets to go 0-3 with a man advantage.
Up next, the Chiefs will return to the Arena for the vaunted Teddy Bear Toss game tomorrow night on Saturday, December 3 vs. Lethbridge.
