
Checkers set opening day roster

CHARLOTTE, NC â The Charlotte Checkers announced today their 2004-05 opening day roster. Opening night will be played tonight, Friday, October 22, at 7:05 p.m. versus the Grrrowl at the BiLo Center in Greenville, S.C.
Of the 20 players on the opening day roster, seven return from last season. Dan Preston, Rory Rawlyk, Allan Egeland, Ryan Cuthbert, Steve Macintyre, Dusty Jamieson, and Brandon Cullen all spent time on Charlotte ice in 2003-04.
The opening day roster reads as follows:
Goaltenders (2): Alex Westlund; Kelly Guard
Defensemen (8): Chris Belanger; Ryan Glenn; David Liffiton; Steve MacIntyre; Dan Preston; Rory Rawlyk; Kenton Smith; Jake Taylor
Forwards (10): Matt Chandler; Brandon Cullen (IR); Ryan Cuthbert; Jason Dawe; Allan Egeland; Mike Harder; Dusty Jamieson (IR); Ryan Lang; Eddie Pershin; Juris Stals
The Checkers, who split a two-in-two set of games with the Augusta Lynx in the preseason, get their first real test tonight against the Greenville Grrrowl in the first game of the regular season. The Checkers all-time record versus the Grrrowl is 16-20-2 and they hope to even the score in 2004-05. The Checkers open this season with 9 former NHL draft picks including David Liffiton and Jason Dawe, both second round picks.
