Division Finals rematch this weekend in Boise

October 22, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

Boise, Idaho – The Alaska Aces have released Bruno Lemire, who scored a goal in last Thursday's 4-1 pre-season victory over Greenville, and now prepare to open the 2004-05 regular season at the home of the defending Kelly Cup champions.

Idaho defeated Alaska in a tense Pacific Division Finals last year, three games to one, with the series-deciding goal coming in the closing seconds of Game Four. Nine of the Steelheads return from that series and the eventual Kelly Cup winners, while 12 of Alaska's 20 players on the opening day roster remember all too well that bitter loss. The release of Lemire, who enjoyed a strong training camp but was caught in a numbers game, leaves the Aces with 11 forwards and seven defensemen to begin the year, along with goaltenders Peter Aubry and Lance Mayes, both of whom are expected to get a start this weekend. Defenseman Mike Clarke, who played four years at Elmira (N.Y.) College before heading to Britain last year, and B.J. Young, who plans to resume his pro career after a one-year hiatus from the game, will start the season on the seven-day injured reserve list.

Alaska returns home to Sullivan Arena next weekend for a three-game series against San Diego in a rematch of last year's first round playoff series, when the Aces eliminated the Gulls (who had finished first overall during the regular season) in three straight games. Friday and Saturday night's contests are scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. face-off, while Sunday's tilt begins at 5:05 and will feature a post-game skate with the Aces, presented by KeyBank. All three games will be broadcast live on AM 750 KFQD and can be seen on a pay-per-view basis at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks.
