IceGators fall to Sea Wolves

Biloxi, Mississippi–

The 2004-05 season opener turned out to be an example of the hockey the IceGators will play under new head coach Todd Gordon, but the Mississippi Sea Wolves rode the hot goaltening of Jason Wolf to a 3-1 victory.

The IceGators out shot the Wolves 40-26 but were repeatedly thwarted by Wolfe. Kerry Ellis-Toddington opened the scoring at the 4:47 of the first period,as his slap shot from the blue line eluded Kyle Kettles. Louis Dumont was credited with the only assist. Aided by a 5-3 power play the Gators outshot the Sew Wolves 15-11 in the first period but could not light the lamp behind Mississippi net minder.

Mike Omicioli tied the score at 1-1 on a power play goal at 3:59 of the 2nd period. Taking a pass from Wes Mason at the far post, Omicioli wristed the puck home for the first IceGators goal of the season. The Sea Wolves answered with goals :55 seconds apart. Louis Dumont tapped the puck past Kyle Kettles on a pass from Antohony Battaglia at the 13:11 mark. 55 seconds later Nicolas Corbeil beat Kettles low from the right circle to increase he lead to two. The Gators out shot the Wolves 11-8 in the 2nd period.

The 3rd period was scoreless despite 14 more IceGators shots. For the game Louisiana was 1-5 on the power play, while the Sea Wolves were 0-4. Wolfe earned the win and the #1 star of the game by stopping 39-40 Louisiana offerings.For only the 2nd time in team history, the IceGators lose their season opener.

The IceGators will have a week of practice until Saturday night, October 30, when the team travels to Beaumont to take on the Texas Wildcatters.
