Rivermen Claim Defenseman Johnson Off Waivers from Trenton

Peoria, Ill. (October 22, 2004) – Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that second-year defenseman Trevor Johnson was claimed off waivers from the Trenton Titans.

Johnson – a 5-foot-10, 177-pound native of Trail, British Columbia – was a member of the 2004 United Hockey League (UHL) Colonial Cup Champion Muskegon Fury, notching two points (1g, 1a) in two playoff appearances. The 22-year-old backliner tallied 26 points (3g, 23a) in 74 games in his first full professional season (2003-2004) with the Fury. After completing a five-year Major Junior "A" career in the Western Hockey League (WHL), he spent 13 games with Muskegon, collecting six assists in seven regular season games and 10 points (4g, 6a) in nine postseason contests.

Johnson spent the majority of his overage year (2002-2003) of junior hockey with the Tri-City Americans, registering 40 points (15g, 25a) and 123 penalty minutes (PIM), after opening the season with the Seattle Thunderbirds. He set single-season WHL career bests in goals (17) and PIM (152) in 2002-2003. He was acquired by the Thunderbirds late in the 2001-2002 campaign. He competed for the Kootenay Ice in three and half of his first four WHL seasons, notching 132 points (27g, 105a) in 232 career games, registering single-season WHL career bests in assists (42) and points (53) in 2000-2001.

The Peoria Rivermen are a proud affiliate of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and a member of the ECHL – America's Premier "AA" Hockey League. Peoria opens its ninth season in the 28-team league on Friday, October 22, 2004, when they host the archrival Dayton Bombers at Carver Arena.
