Charlotte, N.C.- The Checkers were down by three goals twice in the game and were unable to mount enough of a comeback as lose at the hands of the visiting Columbia Inferno by a score of 6-4.

The only goal of the first period was scored by Inferno forward, Julien Brouillette as he knocked in a rebound goal off the initial shot by Joel Hanson past Chris Holt at 10:36 giving Columbia a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes.

Two quick goals in the second period by Columbia extended their lead by two. The first was scored by Danielle Sparre's shot that beat Holt between the legs at 1:49. The next goal resulted after Holt bobbled the puck near his crease resulting in an easy tap in by Liam Huculak at 2:44. The Checkers finally struck when defenseman Kenton Smith blasted a shot from the slot over the blocker of Columbia netminder, Todd Ford at 5:53. Mark Lee would bring the Checkers within a goal as he flipped the puck past a sprawling Ford at 12:25 bringing the Checkers to within a goal. The Inferno would tally a late goal in the second. Forward, Steve McJannet's breakaway was stopped by Holt but the Checkers defense couldn't clear the rebound and Mac Faulkner would place himself atop the crease to slide the puck between the legs of Holt at 19:50 as the Inferno left the second period with a 4-2 lead.

Sparre would score his second of the contest when he redirected a nice pass from Faulkner past Holt at 3:06 putting Columbia up, 5-2. The Checkers would continue to fight back from behind as Michael Busto scored a power play goal firing a shot from the blueline that deflected off Columbia defenseman Eric Lundberg and between the legs of Ford at 8:01 during a Checkers power play. Blake Bellefeuille would bring the Checkers within a goal when he scored a one-timer from Mark Lee at 17:53 during a two-man advantage. But, the Checkers wouldn't be able to squeeze out another tally and they allowed an empty net goal with four seconds remaining.
