Desharnais Named CCM Vector Rookie of the Month For Third Time
April 3, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - Cincinnati Cyclones rookie center David Desharnais has been named CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month for March. Desharnais, 21, turned in a 31 point month on twelve goals and 19 assists, to go with a +8 rating. The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators.
Desharnais, a native of Quebec City, is the first Cyclones player to collect the Rookie of the Month award in team history. He becomes the first player in ECHL history to win the award three times in the same season (November, February and March). The 5-foot-6, 177 pounder had points in twelve of the 16 games during the month and registered eight multiple point contests.
For the season, Desharnais leads the ECHL in scoring with 28 goals and 74 assists for 102 points. David leads the ECHL with 74 assists and ranks second in the league in plus/minus rating at +35. He leads all rookies in the league in scoring by 21 points heading into the final weekend of play.
Desharnais played last season with Chicoutimi (QMJHL), where he amassed 108 points on 38 goals and 70 assists in 61 games. David also appeared in seven games with Bridgeport (AHL). A three-time winner of the Frank Selke Trophy as the league's Most Sportsmanlike Player, Desharnais has signed an AHL contract with Hamilton since joining the Cyclones.
Cincinnati has won the North Division with a 54-11-5 record, recording the second-most wins in ECHL history and tying for third-most standings points (113).
The Cincinnati Cyclones play at Reading on Friday night (April 4) at 7pm. That game will be carried on 96 Rock. Tickets for all Cyclones games can be purchased at the U.S. Bank Arena box office, all Ticketmaster outlets including select Kroger stores, charge by phone at 513-562-4949 or online at ticketmaster.com.
